História do futuro, Milton Machado
"What we see everywhere is the short-circuit between things, images, words, affections, and meanings; it is an absurd mobility of senses that conspires with our desire to attach what we already know to what appears before us. As the saying goes: appearances are deceiving, and art is always a game and an illusion." The words of the curator and critic Luiz Camillo Osório can be added to the process of reconstructing meanings developed by Milton Machado in História do Futuro.
The artist has been working on the project for over 30 years. It is a work-in-progress richly illustrated by sketches, drawings, sculptures, texts, and installations that was also presented at the 29th São Paulo Biennial in 2010. This book, edited by Associação para o Patronato Contemporâneo (APC) in partnership with Cosac Naify and with support from the Department of Culture of the State of Rio de Janeiro, adds yet another layer to Machado's illustration of "utopian" worlds in História do Futuro.
