Abraham Palatnik: a reinvenção da pintura
The catalogue documents Abraham Palatnik's works presented in a homonymous exhibition, the largest ever held on the artist, a significant figure in kinetic art and in the Brazilian and international contemporary modern art. The bilingual publication (Portuguese/English) highlights the coherence of Palatnik's work and trajectory in chronological order. It includes his early studies in drawing and painting at the Tel Aviv Municipal Art School, kinetic objects and kinechromatic devices designed and produced by the artist since the 1950s, furniture designs, and recent paintings. In addition, the book gathers critical texts by Felipe Scovino, Michael Asbury, and Rubem Braga, as well as an interview conducted by Felipe Scovino with the artist in 2012.
Curated by Felipe Scovino and Pieter Tjabbes, the exhibition Abraham Palatnik: a reinvenção da pintura [Abraham Palatnik: The Reinvention of Painting] was on view at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro, from February 1 to April 24, 2017. The show was also presented at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Brasília (2013), the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art (2014), The Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Curitiba (2014), and the Iberê Camargo Foundation (2014).
