Poesia viva, Paulo Bruscky
In Poesia Viva, all the irreverence and originality of Paulo Bruscky's poetic work is praised by an expressive selection with more than 100 pieces on paper organized by Antonio Sergio Bessa. The introductory text by Bessa provides an overview of the historical, artistic, and social environment that contributed to the practice of this artist from Pernambuco, who became a reference for researchers of the 1960s–1970s Brazilian vanguards. Bruscky is internationally recognized as one of the greatest exponents of avant-garde art from that time. Poesia Viva is a publication produced in partnership between Associação para o Patronato Contemporâneo (APC) and the publisher Cosac Naify.
Poesia Viva is part of the project that includes the exhibition Paulo Bruscky: Art Is Our Last Hope, curated by Bessa and presented at The Bronx Museum of the Arts (New York, USA), from September 2013 to April 2014. A success of audience and critical acclaim, the exhibition traveled to Phoenix Art Museum (Arizona, USA) following the invitation of the curator Vanessa Davidson, where it was on view from September to December 2014. The partnership between the museums resulted in the publication of the homonymous catalogue, featuring the research of Bessa and Davidson on Bruscky's work. The project, developed and coordinated by APC, was supported by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture's Law for Cultural Incentive and sponsored by Banco Itaú.
